Dark Side of the Siren
Siren Full

Siren Detail

The Sea - Siren, defined throughout  history as a dangerous, beautiful woman, yet the beauty is but a façade hiding the destructiveness within her. She prowls upon and brings down her prey, but what and who brought her to this?……. Rage? Revenge? Sorrow? Sadness?  Fear? Friend? Enemy? Or lover ? …… You decide.

Myth or reality?

If we are truthful and face the mirror, there is empathy, for she is within us all.

If we turn away for fear of what will confront us, then we are lost!

Autumnal
              Earth Details 2

Though Summer born, I have always favoured Autumn.  The electrifying intensity of a glorious palette, visual delight, and sanguine  mood  are all  magnificent in their united defiance , whilst yet  holding a melancholic last breath for the bleakness to come.

Hues of Colour, Earthly life, Harvest Moon, and the life - giving Sun …. Elements of Autumn.

Did I Dream or Was I There?

Did I Dream....

A balmy  evening, pebbly beach, summer sea, and a silent moon watched as it sailed across the horizon.
Memories. We store them in our minds - eye to revisit and share.

His  Pomfret  Lover

HPL

Designed for the Liquorice and Allsorts Exhibition at Pontefract , this was Inspired  by John Betjemans’ poem ‘The Liquorice Fields at Pontefract‘. Creating this portrait of the lover he wrote of meeting was irrisistable.

He speaks of  her ‘sulky lips’, and  her ‘blazing eyes’  and of being her ‘captive slave‘, but most tellingly she was  his ‘red - haired robber chief’  who  captured him with ‘flaming ropes of hair’….a titian - haired siren indeed!

Forgiven
Forgiven

Skin is a façade that holds our lives within, for without it we would surely die. It is a shape - shifting form that knows no beginning, no end. Relentlessly renewing with no rest and no thanks. Why then, whilst we tattoo, pierce, burn, choke, stretch, incise and scar ourselves in the eternal quest for beauty does it forgive us?
